11 Dec Kerri Elder and Blake Elder of Rockhill Studios make it to Sundance!
Executive Producers, Kerri Elder and Blake Elder, of Rockhill Studios are pleased to announce “To the Stars” has been selected as one of 16 films to be accepted into the US Dramatic Competition at Sundance for 2019! This coming-of-age story produced by Kristin Mann (“Midnight Special”) and Laura D. Smith (“It Follows”) is directed by Martha Stephens (Land Ho!) and written by Shannon Bradley-Colleary.
“To the Stars” was shot in the neighboring state of Oklahoma and Rockhill Studios, of Fayetteville, AR, served as the post production house. The Arkansas Film Commission has been instrumental in helping make Arkansas a destination for digital media content producers.
“To the Stars” is set in the 1960’s and centers on the powerful friendship forged between a shy farmer’s daughter (Kara Hayward) and a reckless new girl (Liana Liberato) and the scrutiny of a small town. The movie also stars Malin Akerman, Shea Whigham and Tony Hale. Lucas Zumann, Jordana Spiro, and Adelaide Clemens round out the cast.
Few films from this region have made it into the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. However, this will not be the first time for director, Martha Stephens. Stephens’ movie “Land Ho!” premiered at Sundance in 2014 and won the John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. It was then distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. This year Martha and her female writer and producers are in good company as over half of the films selected in this year’s competition are female.
“To the Stars was one of the best scripts I have ever read and we committed to the development and completion of this project since 2017. Thanks to the masterful work by the director, producers, and actors, this film is a powerful and moving story that sheds light on a still relevant topic. We are extremely excited about the opportunities ahead for this film.”
– Kerri Elder, Founder and Executive Producer/Rockhill Studios
